June 20, 1922. Twenty-five Army officers, some of whom had just learned that the company providing their automobile insurance had gone insolvent met at the Gunter Hotel in San Antonio. In a time when insurance companies came and went and promises were too often broken, these officers decided to start a new company based on a novel concept: people looking out for each other.
